Pilot application phases

PRESTE’s staff in cooperation with Municipality of Lamia organized the pilot application, which has been realized in two phases.

The first one took place at Vasilikon Street, a high traffic road, while the second one took place at Ypsilandou Street, a road cited in the center of the city of Lamia and which is characterized by light traffic. 2 subcontractors of Lamia were assigned, after a public competition process. All preparatory actions as well as actions during the implementation (preparation of the road pavement including removal of the old asphalt layer, tack coating, laying of new rubberized asphalt mixture, compaction) have been supervised by PRESTE’s staff and engineers from Municipality of Lamia. PRESTE’s staff, during the whole pilot application, supervised the various actions and was in continuous contact with the constructors, in order to achieve the best result in field.

Phase I: Vasilikon Street

Preparation actions concerning the removal of old surface asphalt layer took place in Vasilikon street (a heavy traffic road-part of National Road of Athens-Lamia-Karpenisi). Actions included removal of old surface asphalt layer by the use of an appropriate for this use heavy machine. Waste from old asphalt layer was removed from the site. A light machine has been used for the removal of old layer at not easily approachable parts of the road by the heavy machine. Following road surface was cleaned by the use of a brush. All machines used water in order to eliminate dust.
Before
laying of the new asphalt layer, tack coating took place, so as to enhance the bonding between the remained old asphalt layer of the road pavement and the new one. The first part of the pilot application was completed by compaction of the new layer.

Phase II. Ypsilandou Street
